A somatic trance workshop // documentation
This workshop becomes a portal to (re)enter our ghost bodies. We worked with two main creative elements such as water and air given the approaching transition from libra into scorpio season (and its respective accompanying retro-shades in these same signs in the planet of Venus and Mercury). We entered the field through a meditative practice for, the body must be grounded so we can (re)enter. The element of water through the evocation of the orisha /orixa Iemanjá brought cleansing and a porously vast and fluid environment. The cleansing allows for the ghost soma to be mounted and shared with the ancestors. The air element from the orisha /orixa Exu brought breath, movement, expansion, dispersion and waves into the water circulating message transmission.. We found our shores, contraction, boundaries and discernment through protective crosses to not flood the ghost too much. We worked with repetitive movements to induce a low threshold of trance and kept our shores close so we didn’t lose ourselves completely in this body.

The past still inhabits your body
it lives through ghosts and unfinished legacies
backwards
in the encoded DNA
The purpose of this workshop is:
to bring awareness and alignment of the element of multiplicity in the body
to bring deeper connection, openings and crossroads
to bring clarity and discernment into confronting what is there by building emo-somatic capacity
to get to know this ghost body erotically and (re)enter its sensuous rivers
This workshop is based on my studies of Afrotransatlantic cosmologies of body, ritual, and ancestral communion. It touches upon knowledge rooted in Ifa, Candomblé, Voodoo, and Santeria. The thresholds were kept low because traditionally, these types of things are meant to be practiced in community through ceremony and ritual. As many afrodescendents and diaspora in Europe live displaced from land and larger African and Black communities dispersed and uprooted through colonialism, I find these temporary portals to discover, learn and practice with care in contexts such as this workshop. Additionally, this workshop is also based on my readings of “Black Quantum Futurism: Theory and Practice” by Rasheeda Phillips and Camae Ayewa (aka Moor Mother). And Astrology of course!
